Sydney Desalination Pipeline Tunnel

The project involved the construction of a mechanical plant to covert sea water into drinking water for distribution across Sydney via a tunnel, which integrated into the Sydney Water pipeline system at Alexandria.

Scope of Works:

Civil & Tunnel were engaged to supply plant and labour across multiple sites to:

• Complete site preparation works, including compound set up
• Excavate 12 shafts in varying ground conditions including running sand, water charged ground & hard rock. The shafts ranged in size up to 12m diameter to 20m in depth
• Excavate the first segment lined shaft in Australia
• Construction of the Botany Bay rock wall platform for the marine crossing and TBM launch pad at Kurnell
